There is no denying that 2020 has been a rough year so why not give these superstitions a try that are said to bring good luck and positive energy in the new year? Cosmopolitan has a great list but we have chosen a few that we are thinking about trying.

  2. Wake Up Early on January 1: A Polish tradition states that waking up early on New Year’s Day means you’ll easily wake up early for the rest of the year.
  3. Kiss Someone at Midnight: We assume you already know this one, but just in case, we had to include it! This superstition says that if you kiss someone who gives you goosebumps when the clock hits 12, your love will last all year long.
  4. Carry an Empty Suitcase: In Colombia, people walk around with an empty suitcase on New Year’s Eve, as it’s believed to ensure you’ll travel throughout the next 12 months.
  5. Eat Black-Eyed Peas and Collard Greens: Eating black-eyed peas and collard greens on the first day of the new year is supposed to bring good luck and prosperity.

  7. Eat a Dozen Grapes at Midnight: This midnight snack is supposed to bring good luck for every month of the new year.
  8. Throw Furniture Out a Window: Not sure we recommend this one, but, in Italy, people toss their belongings—including furniture—out the window as soon as the clock strikes midnight on January 1, as it’s thought to help make room for only positive vibes in the new year.
  9. Open the Door at Midnight: In the Philippines, people open all the doors and windows in their homes at midnight so the bad vibes clear out and good luck can come inside.
