Things are moving right along at our renovation/add on at 220 Georgetown in Five Points. You can see progress photos here but as a quick recap, we are transforming this bungalow into a two-story home that fits all of this family’s needs.

We have been working with the homeowners to grow their three-bedroom, two-bathroom house to a five-bedroom, four-bathroom home with a bonus room, updated kitchen, new driveway, and second story.

At this point in the project, it was time for the flooring and Hank McCullough, the owner of Urban Building Solutions, is on-site to give us a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into installing new hardwood floors during this type of renovation.

The Challenge

The big challenge with this home was the floors were not even. This is an older property that had seen a few different sets of flooring over the years. When you went from the entrance into the kitchen, you could feel lots of inclines and declines. To begin, we had to put down leveling wood. We still have a lot of sanding to do to make everything even for the finished product but what the homeowners will receive when it is all said and done is even, gorgeous floors that are safe.

Unfortunately, the wood that was already in the home was not usable. We worked closely with the homeowners to choose new hardwoods that were not only durable and attractive but also a good price to help keep them on budget.

Up next, we will be choosing a stain that will complement their new cabinets, countertops, and paint colors. Stay tuned for more photos to come. We cannot wait for you to see the finished product.
